Description:
The documentary narrates the design and construction process involved in building the home/studio of the artist Hubert Kostner in Castelrotto. It examines the work of the two architects, Sandy Attia and Matteo Scagnol (Modu sarchitects/Bressanone) who started work on the design in 2009. Kostner moved into his new habitation/studio in 2013, with his family. The shape of the building and the materials involved, timber and concrete, are striking. It is an aesthetic statement born of an intense collaboration between the artist and the architects. While radically different from the traditional houses that surround it, it is not a self-referencing building; it reflects the vernacular architecture, albeit somewhat whimsically, and is sympathetic to the local culture and landscape. The Super 8 archive clips illustrate the reality of peasant life in Alto Adige in the 60s and 70s and complete the visual exploration of the shapes, materials and external and internal spaces of the home/studio.
