In Medias Res

Description:

A precious document to understand the Portuguese architect Manuel Tainha’s thought (1922-2012). It is cultural comparison where cinema becomes the tool to catch the ethic and poetic essence. Three buildings realized between 1950 and 1970 – Pousada de Santa Bárbara in Oliveira do Hospital, Escola dos Olivais (currently Escola Secundária António Damásio) in Lisbon, the private house Gallo in São Pedro de Moel, together with the pools in Tamariz and the underground station Alameda in Lisbon – act as a background to the conversations with the director recorded between 2010 and 2012 and to the editing of three of Tainha’s texts - of which one is unpublished - written and published at different times. Reflections and interdisciplinary interactions create a sophisticated study on the relationship between architecture and its representation, work and imagination, architecture and cinema.
