Description:
Re-design Berlin, transforming Alexanderplatz area – East Berlin’s main square – in a Manhattan-like business district. An architectural competition, started in 1993 intended to breathe new life into the square left to crumble since the fall of the Berlin Wall, quickly turned into a battlefield. Architects and designers who participated in the competition present their visions and different perspectives on how to proceed. Should the new construction preserve the stylistic differences between East and West? How to let history speak? Alexanderplatz, the destination of international tourism, keep on gaining notoriety.
