Lino Sabattini

Description:

The artist, silversmith, but above all artisan, as he was used to defining himself, Lino Sabattini (1925 - 2016) was born in Correggio, Reggio Emilia but he lived all his life in Brianza. Self-taught, stubborn and ambitious, Sabattini suggested, in the industrial era - that of large-scale reproducibility- a valuable, limited edition artistic craftsmanship and a new “Arte in Tavola” (Art to the Table). The one discovering his talent was Gio Ponti, his mentor and friend. For him, Sabattini realised many metal objects prototypes. The documentary goes through his long career: his first job in a small brassware shop near Como lake, his passion for metal’s trade, glass and ceramic, the connection with designers Bruno Munari and Joe Colombo and the partnership with brands like Cassina, Christofle, Rosenthal, Moser and Zani&Zani.
